About Dr. Cotterill
Dr. Paul Cotterill operates his hair transplant clinic in Toronto, Canada, as well as having an office in Manhattan to see patients for consultation. After receiving his Bachelor of Science, with honours, from McGill University and later his degree in medicine from the University of Toronto and completing 2 years of surgical residency in orthopedic surgery, he trained with Dr. Walter Unger in a medical practice limited entirely to hair restoration and transplantation in both men and women. Dr. Cotterill has been practicing hair restoration exclusively for over 28 years and will try to work with all patients and their unique situations.
Dr. Cotterill is a past president of The International Society of Hair restoration Surgery (ISHRS), as well as being current Chair of the ISHRS Continuing Medical Education Committee. Dr. Cotterill is a past Program Chair of the ISHRS Annual Meeting that was held in Washington, D. C. in 1998. He is also a member of the Pro Bono Committee, which runs Operation Restore for the ISHRS.
In 2012 Dr. Cotterill became one of the first members of the ISHRS to attain the level of Fellow of The International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery. The designation of Fellow was established in order to recognize members who met its exceptional educational criteria. Dr. Cotterill’s celebrated educational achievements have carried over to his practice at his hair transplant clinic in Toronto and his position in the medical community.
Dr. Cotterill is a diplomate of The American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery and has served on the board of The International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery, and The American Board of Hair Restoration Society. He is also a founding member of The Canadian Society of Hair Restoration Surgery.
Currently Dr. Cotterill serves as an Out Of Hospital Premise Inspector for The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO), for which he assesses hair restoration clinics and doctors in Ontario to ensure the guidelines set up by The CPSO are met.
Dr. Cotterill has lectured internationally on hair transplantation. He is the author of numerous articles published in many diverse medical journals, as well as authoring chapters in many medical texts. Dr Cotterill authored a chapter entitled Hair Transplantation in Women in the foremost medical reference textbook Hair Transplantation, 3rd Edition. Dr. Cotterill has appeared on many radio and television programs including The Dini Petty Show and The Life Channel, and Breakfast Television.
In addition to his hair transplant clinic in Toronto and having been a clinical teacher for the University of Toronto – Department of Dermatology, Dr. Cotterill has been an investigator for the Upjohn and Merck pharmaceutical companies on drugs aimed at slowing down or reversing male pattern baldness. In the past he has been a clinical investigator for investigating (Propecia) Finasteride, through the University of Toronto and Merck Frosst Corporation, and its effects on male pattern baldness.
